WOODFORD GREEN SPORTS PREMIUM

At Woodford Green, PE & Sport have an important role in supporting our children to learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work and ambition. This we believe will lead to children making better lifestyle choices, improved concentration, attitude and academic achievement. Woodford Green has had a long history of competing locally in a range of events and we are committed to ensuring more opportunities for pupils to compete across our federation, inter-school and outer borough. 

We welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all of our children.

What is Sports Premium?

Sports Premium is a Government funding initiative to support the delivery of physical education and sport in primary schools.

How will we be spending the PE and Sport Premium Funding?

In our school have adopted an inclusive approach to the development of physical activity and sport for our pupils. We are working to enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.

We have started, and will continue, to use the PE and Sport Premium funding in the following ways, so that:

• All of our pupils understand the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
• Our most able children are given the opportunity to compete in local and national tournaments.
• All of our pupils benefit, irrespective of sporting ability
• All of our pupils have the opportunity to take part in competitive activity whether through intra or inter school competition.
• Our staff have access to training and relevant CPD opportunities.
• Our staff are able to develop their subject knowledge and confidence in order to teach high-quality PE through team teaching with our PE specialist.

In addition to the rationale above, we want to ensure that the PE and Sports funding benefits all children and helps us to develop inter-school partnerships. We recognise that to achieve our aim, our staff will need high quality CPD.

We will commit to:

• Providing quality CPD
• Providing a number of after school sports clubs so that pupils are able to compete against each other and those from other schools.
• We will continue to enhance our playgrounds, enhancing our provision of PE & Sport as well as health and well-being.
• Developing more opportunities for intra-school competition.
• Provide SEND and disadvantaged children with additional opportunities for inter-school competition.
• Provide fit-for-purpose PE equipment and facilities.
• We can look into creating a more structured afternoon ‘playtime’ for key stage 1 aimed at promoting healthy and active lifestyles.

We will evaluate the impact of the Sports Premium funding and consider the efficacy of the funding in improving the quality and breadth of our PE and sporting provision. Our Sports Premium funding is used towards employing our own specialist PE coach. Our PE coach raises the quality of teaching across the school and oversees all inter- school competitions.
